It is no secret that planning a wedding can be entirely overwhelming. I try my very best to help ease some stress with the knowledge I’ve gathered from working in the industry! However, there comes a point where my knowledge might not be as comprehensive as some other vendors. Which brings me to the tips we’re sharing today on picking out that special white dress! One of my dear friends in the industry, Lauren of Trousseau Style, is not only a super sweet person, but also an expert on all things wardrobe styling! She not only offers personal styling, but also bridal styling services… yet another way to ease a little stress!
We asked her to share a few tips for picking out the gown that you’ll take that one walk down the aisle in!
A little about Lauren! Lauren is the owner of Trousseau Style, which is a wardrobe styling company based in Philadelphia. Lauren specializes in personal styling, but is also an expert in bridal styling! She knows all the ins and outs of styling your look for not only your wedding day, but also your bridal shower, engagement party, your rehearsal dinner and more! Now that you know a little more about her, I’m going to let her take it away with the tips!
Tip #1 Before you start shopping, come up with an overall vision.
Get some inspiration from Pinterest, Instagram and magazines and save them in one place. While that vision may change, it will be really helpful to you and the bridal stylist if you have some direction. When you go in blind, you can be easily swayed by what everyone else likes and get lost.
Tip #2 Start shopping once you know your date!
As soon as you’ve chosen a venue, start looking for the dress! Ideally, 12 to 9 months before the wedding. Just to be safe, you should order your dress 8 to 9 months before the wedding to allow for a proper fitting.
Tip #3 Research Bridal Shops!
When determining where to go, check out the salon’s website and follow them on social media to make sure you like the designers they carry and their overall vibe. You’ll also want to make sure they carry dresses in your price range. Calling ahead and letting them know your size is a good idea too!
Tip #4 Completing the look with a veil
Remember you don’t have to buy the veil when you buy your gown. If you’re a visual person and you want to see the whole look together, then it might be more beneficial for you to buy the veil at the same time. But ultimately you don’t have to say yes to the veil when you say yes to the dress. You can wait until you first fitting to purchase the veil so you have some time to gather some other fashion elements for your wedding day look.
Tip #5 Remember your vision and stay true to yourself.
It’s great to get help from professionals, friends and family members, but this is your big day! You’re the one who has to love the dress so its important to go back to that inspiration! Give yourself a breath if you need, the dress isn’t going anywhere! You should feel 100% confident in your dress decision!
Tip #6 Choose the right friends and family to accompany you
Shopping for your wedding dress is such a fun and special experience. But it can also be stressful when you have too many opinions. I believe less is more. Go with your close friends and family members who are going to support your decision. Once you’ve narrowed it down to 1 or 2 dresses, bring the group to pop the bubbly and say “yes!” to the dress!
