I have always wanted to photograph a live proposal (and I technically photographed my best friend’s) BUT it finally and officially happened!! When Johnny reached out and told me how excited he was to propose, I was thrilled! He said that Courtney had NO idea it was coming, which made it so much more fun!
How they met
Courtney and Johnny met while attending West Chester University. They lived in the same dorm and were only a year apart. As students usually do, they were hanging out in the lobby, and she was telling everyone about how she LOVED cats! Since Johnny has 2 cats, he asked for her number… of course to ONLY send her pictures of his cats ;)
The ring hunt
It has been two years since Johnny and Courtney knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. Of course (as any girl would!) she dropped hints along the way of the type of ring she wanted. Let’s just say Johnny did a GREAT job of picking up on those hints! He went to a jeweler and picked the band and the setting, and as soon as the jeweler put the diamond in the ring, he started to tear up and knew 100% that was the one.
Their West Chester University Proposal
Johnny wanted the proposal to be as sentimental as possible so he knew that heading back to West Chester University, where their love story started, would be perfect. They met there, lived there together for 3 years, graduated together and ultimately started their lives there together. He walked her through the campus as they chatted a little about their beginnings until they got to THE spot.
I popped up as soon as I saw them come through the arch and snapped the photo of him on one knee as Courtney (who was shocked!) squealed “YES!”. Johnny made sure their families could be present and I love that in one of the photos of him on his knee you can see their blurry heads poking out from behind the car!
