I think every photographer would agree that 2018 is the year of RAIN! So when Monday rolled around and the forecast changed from partly cloudy to 100% chance of rain ALL day, we had to decide on a rain plan for this sweet sweet couple’s engagement session! At this time of year with the sun setting so early our couples often have to take off work, let alone that Avery and Jim were traveling 2 hours to come up for their session! Cue Longwood Gardens and their beautiful location. On a Monday afternoon, there really weren’t many guests, so we really had most of Longwood to ourselves!
How They Met
Avery and Jim met over three years ago, when they were both members of the Stevenson University Marching Band. Avery didn’t know anyone so when she met Jim and realized they were both originally from New Jersey, they had so much to talk about! At the end of the season was when Avery realized she wanted to get to know Jim more :) They went on their first date to Outback Steakhouse, which has a location right off campus – easily within walking distance. Even though Avery lived super close to the restaurant, Jim insisted on picking her up and driving her there.
The Proposal
There’s nothing like NYC around the holidays and last Christmas, Avery and Jim went to NYC over the holidays with her family. Without Avery knowing, Jim had already asked Avery’s parents for permission to spend their lives together. While in NYC Avery’s mom was super pushy about going to “look around” and see Times Square. Little did Avery know, her mom was trying to get them to the spot where Jim wanted to ask her to be his forever! In the middle of Times Square, Jim got down on one knee where Avery said YES, and they were surrounded by “papparazi” for their 5 minutes of fame in the big crowd :)
Their Fall Longwood Gardens Engagement
Man, I am one lucky photographer to have such sweet clients. I’m pretty sure that every time Avery mentioned something she likes or does, I said “me too!” We had so much in common and I just loved getting to learn about how Jim and Avery met, what they like to do and just how great of people they are. We hunkered down in the Conservatory while it poured, and at the end of the session, it cleared up enough for us to sneak in some photos outside with the fall colors too!!
