For those of you who don’t know, I’m from Gettysburg, and for those of you who have never been there, let’s just say there are a TON of fields and farms. I love all aspects of the countryside and especially love weddings that showcase the natural beauty all around us :) Even though we didn’t get to visit Gettysburg this past weekend, we did venture to Maryland for this DIY rustic fall wedding! Lets just say I was in my happy place with fields, fall colors and an awesome couple!

How they Met and the Proposal

Kathleen and Kenan first met when his church group visited her’s. They were just starting high school at the time and didn’t actually talk on the trip, but a few years later they went on their first date at Peddler’s Village. When it came time to propose, Kenan had known for a while that he wanted to ask her to be his forever. (At the wedding, Kathleen’s dad recounted the day that Kenan asked for permission and MAN was he nervous, but entirely excited!) Kenan planned the proposal at Kathleen’s family’s cabin which is nestled on a private lake. They walked along a path towards Kathleen’s favorite spot to watch the sunset. Kenan started explaining all the reasons he loved her while Kathleen tried so hard to concentrate on his words, but she noticed his arms start to tremble and all concentration was lost! The next thing she knew Kenan was on one knee, putting a ring on her finger as she said yes!

When I was thinking of how to describe this wedding, I realized there was honestly no other way to describe it than DIY, and the most impressive DIY that I’ve ever seen! From the bouquets to the centerpieces to the groomsmen ties, and really every single detail of this wedding, Kathleen created each part! She sewed the ties herself, made the bouquets and boutonnieres and just had a personal touch to every part of the wedding. I loved that the rain plan landed these two in the church where Kenan originally saw Kathleen for the first time and that they chose to have their reception in her parent’s yard! Her grandma lives just up the road with the best yard and even a stunning field (cue the heart eyes!).
