It can be a little extra nerve wracking photographing for people I already know and love and this wedding was no different! Not to mention Allison and Josh made it a point to support small local businesses for each wedding vendor they booked. With his parents they own Deer Run Farm in Emmitsburg, Maryland do they know the challenges of running a small business. Knowing Allison since high school made this wedding all the sweeter, let alone the plethora of succulents… girl knows the way to my heart!
HOW THEY MET & THE PROPOSAL
Allison went to school for graphic design and was working when Josh wandered in needing large format copies for his job down the road. Nearly every day he wandered back until it was pretty much a daily occurrence. They went on their first date to a movie that neither of them remembers but they do remember the late French toast meal at the Lincoln Diner that followed and made up for a poor movie choice! After dating for a while, they ventured to Raystown Lake for their first camping trip together. They wanted to make sure to do all of the typical camping trip activities like hiking and kayaking. There was a “1,000 Steps” hike up the mountain that they weren’t sure they could handle. It is a high comprised of large boudlers cut out of the side of a mountain that are super slippery. That first camping trip they conquered the 1,000 Steps! When Josh was ready to propose he took Allison on a scavenger hunt. It started at Deer Run Farm where he would then ask her questions until she could guess the answer of their destination. Eventually the guesses led back to the 1,000 Steps. They hiked it once more and at the top Josh as Allison to marry him!
Their Deer Run Farm Wedding
There is something about being surrounded by fields that gives me the right perspective :) It’s a LITTLE different when those fields are filled with cows, but the perspective is still a good one! To be at Deer Run Farm where Allison and Josh spend most of their time, but this time to celebrate them, was definitely something special. Josh put on his finishing touches amongst the cows and he got to see his bride for the first time in another field on their farm. Not only do they have a ton of cattle, they also have chickens! It was fitting that one ran across the alter as I was taking detail photos, and even more fun that each of the reception tables were labeled as a different breed of chicken! I am so thankful to have captured these two in such a special place on the most important of days!
